"If I say the same things"

If I say the same things
                again and again
it is because these things must be said,
like prayers to the almighty,
like praise to the beauty
               of all. . .
This is what the wind says
        when it blows.

If I shout the same things
                again and again
   it is because these things long to be heard;
the voices of the mountains
do not tremble to speak —
they speak
             and then tremble. . .
These things must be heard.

If I whisper the same things
                again and again. . .
a dragonfly hovers briefly
      then dashes away.

If I sing, shout, speak,
  laugh, say, converse, dictate,
  discourse, ramble, lecture,
  mumble, babble, talk, chatter,
  address, articulate, utter,
  verbalize, sonarize, and so forth
                the same things
         over and over
it is because these things
                       are worth repeating —
  there is a melody. . .

If only you could hear it,
                the way it is said,
        all at once
and for
                    all time.
