What I dreamed, when I dared not

We were in a painting.
Half the sky was moon and stars
	and dark dark blue.
Half was sun and clouds
	and bright bright blue.
We lay together in the sand
     beneath palm trees
     my arm around you.
There was a pointed crown upon my head.
Your hair was long and sensuous
and covered part of your naked breast.
You wore a bright medallion
	whose sister was the moon.
And people, people danced
     picking up their feet
          and laughing
          clapping
          moving.
And in the sea swam
	young boys and girls
	with dolphins.
No matter how stern my repose,
	lying next to you,
I thought I would die
     of happiness.
