Santa

One Christmas Eve

by Rachel A. Gold

One Christmas Eve I heard a noise
A knocking at my door
And when I opened it, it as
No one who'd come before

Outside there stood a man in red
With snow-white beard, because
I knew who he was meant to be
So I said - Santa Claus!

It is my husband, I remarked
Or else my grown-up son
But in a chorus they replied
It is not either one!

Then Santa said "I am in haste
My reindeer cannot pause
Here, take this gift", and then I knew
He was really Santa Claus!
