Mudd came home from the animal shelter as a tiny kitten. For a long time, she didn't have a name at all ( except "Kitty", of course).
Her new Mom and Dad were trying to come up with a special name for her, one that would suit her personality. Meanwhile, the
little kitten was screaming under the bedroom door at night, trying to get into the bed with her people. She was climbing the curtains,
and clawing the furniture. At meal times, she was constantly underfoot, or on the table. Daddy kept saying "Cat, if you don't behave
your name will be mud".
Mudd grew out of her kitten misbehavior, but the name stuck.
She lived for eighteen years, and was a wonderful companion and friend. June 7, 1996
Midnight came from the animal shelter also, but she had her name before she went out the door. This is fortunate, because Midnight
has made Mudd seem like a saint. When she was small enough, Midnight would go under the doors in the trailer. Since we are
allergic to cats and must keep them out of the bedroom, we had to put her in the bathroom at night. She couldn't go under the
bathroom door, so she started systematically tearing it apart.
It took two years to get rid of the fleas that came home with Midnight. The flea battle involved lots of trips to the vet's to be bathed and dipped.
This was traumatic for everyone.
Midnight has grown into a big, 13 pound cat. She loves to play chase and loves her kitty treats. Please visit her
home page.

When I was growing up we had a lot of cats, and each new kitten was named by a different child in turn. We had developed a tradition of naming the kittens
from cool names on the map. Thus, we had a Chi Rai and a Sairab. Well, it was my six year old brother's turn to name the kitten, and we wound up with a
Malay Peninsula. One of the most interesting things that happened with Malay occurred when we kids took him to the animal doctor to have his "little operation".
The vet was filling out the card and asked for the name. We said "Malay" and the vet gave us the strangest look. It was only later that I saw he had
written the name as "May Lay"...

Vladimir Ramses Pani will be 15 on July 23. He was born in the Ohio State
University poultry barn (a fancy chicken house) and orphaned at 2.5 weeks
old. In his younger days he was a traveling cat but now he's a homebody
and travels mainly on the net. Elegant and dignified, Vlad is the epitome
of a senior feline statescat. Here he is celebrating his 15th birthday with
a virtual birthday party.
